This bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Skip Daly and signed into law on May 25, 2019, lowers the threshold above which prevailing wages for public projects apply, from $250,000 to $100,000, and requires 100% of prevailing wages be paid for school construction projects, which was previously set at 90%.
Why it matters to working people.
Prevailing wage laws serve as a wage floor and ensure a level playing field for workers and contractors alike. It ensures construction projects are top-quality by using highly skilled and well-trained workers to complete projects on time and on budget.
